Logline
For the first time in cinematic history, the Waorani people of the Ecuadorian Amazon will act in and co-create a feature film in their own language—preserving culture through storytelling and redefining what it means to be seen.
Synopsis
The Land with No Shadows is a feature-length film written and performed by the Waorani, one of the last indigenous groups in the Amazon still speaking their native language. Developed through a collaborative storytelling workshop in the community of Guillero, the project culminates in a staged performance and a film that captures their unique perspectives, ancestral knowledge, and modern challenges. A behind-the-scenes documentary accompanies the narrative, chronicling the process and amplifying the community’s voice.
This unprecedented dual-project initiative is both a cultural time capsule and a cinematic revolution—fusing ethnographic documentary, fiction, and indigenous self-representation.
Why This Film, Why Now
As climate change, deforestation, and modernization threaten the Amazon and its people, The Land with No Shadows is a call to preserve voices before they vanish. Co-owned by the Waorani, the film not only tells their story—it becomes a tool for healing, empowerment, and global awareness.
Production Status
Currently in pre-production with community engagement and location scouting complete. Seeking financing, distribution, and sales partners to move into production in late 2025.
